Takoma Park Rent Stabilization – Annual Rent Increase Allowance

How much can my rent go up?

Max 3% until June 2027.

Takoma Park sets a yearly allowance from inflation. 3% covers raises from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027.

Depends on the number of units or whether the owner lives in the building.

Who it covers

  • Not owner-occupied buildings with 2 units or fewer.
  • Covers: Applies to all individual condominium units and multi-family rental facilities.
  • Exemptions: Single-family houses, accessory apartments, and duplexes with an owner-occupant; landlords may apply for exemption for rental assistance/Section 8 tenants, affordable housing under governmental contract, and newly constructed multi-family facilities. Landlords may apply for fair return increases above the allowance.
