Takoma Park Rent Stabilization – Annual Rent Increase Allowance
How much can my rent go up?
Max 3% until June 2027.
Takoma Park sets a yearly allowance from inflation. 3% covers raises from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027.
Depends on the number of units or whether the owner lives in the building.
Who it covers
- Not owner-occupied buildings with 2 units or fewer.
- Covers: Applies to all individual condominium units and multi-family rental facilities.
- Exemptions: Single-family houses, accessory apartments, and duplexes with an owner-occupant; landlords may apply for exemption for rental assistance/Section 8 tenants, affordable housing under governmental contract, and newly constructed multi-family facilities. Landlords may apply for fair return increases above the allowance.
“Landlords are required to comply with Takoma Park’s Rent Stabilization law and cannot increase the rent on occupied units any higher than this allowance …”
